Adebayo Shittu supports boko haram – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani Kayode has described the purported refusal of a ministerial nominee of Oyo State, Adebayo Shittu to comment on the action of Boko Haram as an act of cowardice.

Fani-Kayode who responded to Shittu’s seemingly cowardly action via his Facebook page on Wednesday stated that the ministerial nominee must be a Boko Haram sympathizer.

Shittu who was screened by the Senate on Tuesday declined to publicly comment on the extremist sect, saying he feared for his safety.

“I cannot publicly comment on Boko Haram; I still have family to take care of,” he said

He noted that many northern leaders were “unfairly” criticised for not speaking out against the sect.

Shittu explained that Boko Haram had killed anybody who spoke out against the sect.

“So anybody that still wants to live will not condemn that faceless group publicly.”

This apparently did not sit well with the former Aviation Minister who slammed Shittu saying:

“I won’t comment on Boko Haram, I still have a family to take care of” Honourable Minister-Designate, Alhaji Bayo Shittu is either a coward or a closest Boko Haram Sympathizer. Shame on him.”

Shittu, a lawyer and Islamic scholar had during the screening insisted that the activities the sect negated the principles of Islam.

“They can claim to be anything, they even claim to be a Christian; but if you are Christian and still go to babalawo (herbalist), you are not really a Christian.

“So also if you say you are a Muslim but kill innocent people, you are not really a Muslim,” he explained.

He further said Islam teaches freedom of religion as a central tenet, pointing that “Almighty Allah says he wants everybody to be of same faith, he will have done so.”

Boko Haram is currently ravaging N/East Nigeria, killing and bombing innocent citizens.
