Amaechi has no right to demand for election’s result sheets – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that Governor Rotimi Amaechi breached the electoral law to have demanded to have results meant for the states.

The INEC’s Deputy Director of Public Information, Nick Dazang who disclosed this on Sunday on a chat with Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, stressed that Amaechi was a mere voter at the election, therefore not entitle to handle the result sheet.

Gov. Amaechi had refused to be accredited at his polling unit last Saturday claiming that the non presentation of the results sheets to him was wrong.

But INEC explained that the result sheets are property of the commission and must not be handed over to any voter.

He said; “INEC officials do not report to voters. They do not report to governors. So, it is wrong for any voter, governor or not, to demand the result.

According to him, results published on social media were misleading and not representative of actual results. He reminded that only INEC has the powers to legally publish results of the election.

According to him, those behind such publications were fomenting trouble having earlier published a resignation letter, purported to have been authored and signed by Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

“Just a few weeks ago, one of them even contrived a letter on a contrived INEC letter headed paper, purporting same to be a resignation letter of the chairman.

He added; “He even went ahead to sign it and then publish on social media. I think we should ignore them.
