APC must #BringBackOurGirls as promised – Ekweremadu

The Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has called on Nigerians and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers to hold the , APC, accountable on each of their promises in accordance with timelines they gave in the cause of their campaigns.

Ekweremadu made this known on Monday while speaking on the theme “The role of opposition in the post election development and good governance” in a PDP National Assembly members-elect retreat held in Rivers State.

“Our lawmakers in the National Assembly should hold the APC accountable for each of their campaign promises.

“We should not just hold them accountable in terms of their lists of promises, but also in accordance with the timelines they gave in the cause of their campaigns.”

Ekweremadu highlighting some of the APC campaign promises Nigerians should watch out for said; “They should be able to bring the exchange rate down, one naira to one dollar.

“They must bring back our girls.

“They should eradicate terrorism and insurgency.

    “They must stop corruption.

“They must create two million jobs every year.

“They must provide uninterrupted electricity supply and fulfilled other campaign promises or prepare to hand over power to PDP in 2019.”

Ekweremadu also criticized the incessant excuses the APC was making concerning their campaign promises stating that such was unacceptable. He called on the PDP lawmakers to ensure they kept the ruling party on its toes.

“We believe they must have studied the Nigeria situation thoroughly before wanting to go into policies.

“They should provide policy alternatives that will guide every executive bill in the executive to make sure that Nigerians are not cheated by the ruling party.”

He said the APC, must ensure that successive National budgets addresses national needs.

He added that the PDP as an opposition party will only support the appointments that passed all competent tests with principles of federal character and equal opportunity.

Ekweremadu pointed out that in as much as they were going to make sure that APC delivers on their promises, such will be done with the consciousness of not propagating falsehood by turning truth upside down the way the APC did.

He said the danger of what APC did in promising Nigerians things that they cannot fulfill, will only propel them to power, but will not keep them there for too long.

It could be recalled that Buhari, despite his claims of turning the Nigerian economy around for good when he assumed power, has asked Nigerians not to expect much from him.

One of the statements that tore Nigerian hearts was “For five or six years, if the Nigerian law enforcement agencies, including the military, couldn’t secure 14 Local Governments. How can I promise miracles?”

Buhari, few weeks to his swearing in further dashed hopes by saying that Nigerians expectations were too high and had nervously, explained to the people that Rome was not built in a day.
