Borno Senatorial Election: DSSS Clears Modu Sheriff

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former Governor of Borno State who is presently vying for the Borno Central Senatorial seat, has been cleared by the Department of State Security Services, DSSS over the alleged sponsorship of the Islamic extremist Sect, Boko Haram.

According to Guardian news reports, the security clearance permits Sen. Sheriff to contest for the Senatorial seat under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after submitting the Borno central senatorial ticket through a consensus arrangement said to have been reached in Abuja.

In Maiduguri, a PDP source affirmed yesterday that the security clearance for the former governor to vie for the senatorial seat will warrant Ali Modu Sherrif to contest alongside Senator Ahmed Zanne, who recently defected from the PDP to the All Progressive Congress APC.

In 2011, Khalifa, then a PDP member, defeated Sheriff who was a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP in the senatorial contest with a wide margin of votes.
