BREAKING: INEC Suspends Rivers State Bye-Election Over Widespread Violence, Massive Rigging And Broad-Day Light Thugging 

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended the PHALGA Constituency II election in Rivers State, that took place on Saturday, over the widespread use of violence and thugs.

In a statement signed by Obo Effanga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, the Commission said: “The hoodlums stormed the various Polling Units and registration areas, disrupting the voting activities, destroying and carting away electoral materials, including smart card readers and ballot boxes.

“As a result of this widespread and wanton disruption of the electoral process as reported by field supervisory presiding officers, and supervisors from the Commission, and also having reviewed all situations, the Commission in accordance with provisions of section 26 of the Electoral Act of 2010 (as amended), hereby suspends the election forthwith.”
