Buhari, Tinubu Unstable As Saraki Makes Very Surprising Defection Statement

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has on Thursday, July 21, said that he remains a proud member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, amid speculations that he has defected from the party to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Saraki, who stated this through his Special Assistant, New Media, Bamikole Omishore, said his media team were aware of a “false publication” making the rounds on social media.

“This fabrication is entirely untrue, as the Senate President, stands committed to the APC; a party that he helped midwife and worked for its victory in the 2015 elections,” the statement, which was posted on his Facebook page said.

Omishore, suggested that the reports were probably influenced by the fact that Saraki, in his official capacity as Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, had attended the end of session event of the PDP’s caucus on Wednesday evening.

Recall, that fresh reports broke out on Wednesday, that the embattled Senate President had defected back to his former party, the PDP.

According to an online news platform, who exclusively reported on Saraki’s defection, the Senate President unofficially defected to the PDP, at a secret meeting with the PDP caucus, at the Abuja home of his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekeremadu, at the Apo Legislative Quarters.

Saraki, has been facing prosecution at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, for false assets declaration.

Since his emergence as President of the 8th Senate, he has been at odds with his party, the APC, over what the party feels was his decision to present himself as candidate for the Senate Presidency, against the party’s wish. The APC’s preferred candidate, was Senator Ahmed Lawan.

Dismissing the report, Saraki’s media aide added: “The Senate President would like to assure every Nigerian that he is committed to the APC-led government and appreciates the confidence reposed in him and the APC during the 2015 General Elections”.
