Dogara ‘Booted Out’ As Tinubu Positions His Political Son To Emerge As New Speaker

Emerging facts have revealed that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has positioned his political son and House of Representatives Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, to take over from the embattled Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, following a planned impeachment plot against him.

This came barely one week, when the APC National Leader, through the Nations Editorial Board Chairman, Sam Omatseye, called for the immediate resignation of the Speaker and his Deputy.

Recall, that the Speaker has been accused of illegally inserting and allocating projects worth over N20 billion, to some Reps members constituencies in the 2016 budget, by the sacked Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin.

Jibrin, had alleged that the 2016 budget was jacked up, using 10 of the 96 Standing Committees in the House.

Other principal officers accused in the budget padding scandal include: the Deputy Speaker, Yussuf Lasun, Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor.

However, Analysts have been skeptical on Jibrin’s deliberate omission of Gbajabiamilla’s name, the Majority Leader of the House, in the ongoing scandal.

“How can Leo Ogor from the PDP, be deeply involved in the budget padding, in an APC government, while Gbajabiamilla, who is the Majority Leader, is not mentioned? It seems that Tinubu and his political son may have something on their sleeves”, a highly placed source said.

Although, Post-Nigeria learnt that Gbajabiamilla has been outwardly silent on the entire budget padding episode, he may be probably working against Dogara and his Deputy at the background, for his possible emergence as Speaker.

Further recall, that Tinubu had frowned at Dogara’s emergence as Speaker on June 9, 2015, after the latter defied the APC to contest, and win the position, instead of the party’s alleged chosen candidate, Gbajabiamila.

In reaction to Tinubu’s opposition to his speakership, Dogara on August 21, 2015, tweeted: “I share the pains of a generation that’s outwardly free, but with lots of fetters on the inside firmly anchored on godfathers.

“After killing corruption, the next thing to kill is godfatherism. In fact it’s corruption in another form. So let’s kill both.”

“With godfathers always breathing on the necks of their godsons who hold public offices, we can’t kill corruption/make progress”.

Despite efforts made by some Chieftains of the APC, to restore peace to the party, its national leader, Tinubu, has insisted that there will be no peace, until Dogara tenders his apologies in national dailies.

Post-Nigeria, had earlier reported that some Members of the house, have started collecting signatures in order to get the Speaker removed, because the allegations they claim, amounts to a dent on the integrity of, not just the House, but the National Assembly.

One of the Lawmakers, said they are shocked that despite efforts to sanitise the system, Dogara, and his clique still found a way around the budget, and inserted items after the budget had been passed, and on transition to the Executive arm.

Meanwhile, the ‘Transparency Group’ of the House of Representatives, had demanded for the investigation of Dogara, and others, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the alleged padding of the 2016 budget.

They insisted that Dogara and other principal officers mentioned in the budget padding scam, be investigated by relevant “external” government agencies.
