Fashion Trends: Best and Worst dressed at the 2016 Oscars

Just when we were getting over the trauma from the 2016 BRIT Awards fashion drama, the biggest night in Hollywood, the Oscars, came along.

The award night which took place on Sunday, February 28, at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, of Los Angeles, United States, saw stars ready for the red carpet and eager to show their individual styles.

From the seriously glammed, to the seriously questionable, the Academy Awards’ red carpet was a mix of highs and lows.

Here are the Oscar looks that dominated and those that failed to impress.

BEST: Cate Blanchett

Not everyone was a fan, but we declare Cate Blanchett a red-carpet winner in this seafoam green creation from Armani Privé. The dress is beautiful as far as the shape; however the embellishments took it one step too far.

WORST: Brie Larson

miss brie larson

Brie Larson was amazingly underwhelming in much-too-ruffly Gucci. For a hotty we expected more.

BEST: Kerry Washington

Oh my God! Kerry Washington wowed in black-and-white Versace and the perfect sparkling diamond earrings. She is not only picture perfect; she is strikingly drop death in this one.

WORST: Heidi Klum

Puff and pomp: Heidi Klum, 42, mixed too much material with a terribly awkward cleavage cut-out, making this billowing lavender chiffon gown one of the worst fashion faux pas at the Oscars this year.

BEST: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet

Titanic co-stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet pulled a Jack and Rose on us on awards night. They looked good together. Though all that glitters isn’t gold: Kate Winslet was looking a little bit too slick in this over-the-top shiny black gown, but it’s still a pass.

WORST: Alicia Vikander

Alicia Vikander who won best supporting Actress for her power performance in ‘The Danish Girl’, failed on the red carpet after nailing it at the SAG Awards. She disappointed in a saccharin version of a Disney princess in custom Louis Vuitton.

BEST: Orlando Jones

Orlando Jones, 47, took the gold, the silver and the bronze in this extremely shiny tuxedo jacket, which featured a sort of stylized feather pattern. He is obviously the best dressed in the male category.

WORST: Reese Witherspoon

Whoever said royal purple was the new black was seriously disturbed. You can do better, Reese.

BEST: Lady Gaga

The monster queen has proved more than once that she is more fashion conscious now. I mean she is fully clothed. She is definitely on point.

WORST: Whoopi Golberg

miss whoopi

Most eye-catching or hand-catching accessories goes to Whoopi Goldberg. These pieces are fascinating and maybe even a bit creepy — for real, her right hand looks like she picked up a parasite at routine aquarium visit. This is a no no.

BEST: Saoirse Ronan

The ‘Brooklyn’ star looks like the sexiest mermaid we’ve ever seen in this emerald Calvin Klein. The sequined, sheath-like gown is seriously grown up. The spaghetti-strapped back is glorious, the way the fabric catches the light is hypnotic, and that tousled bed-head keeps it feeling youthful. Simply gorgeous.

BEST: Charlize Theron

The Mad Max: Fury Road actress looks about seven feet tall, and like an actual goddess. It’s Christian Dior, and it fits her like a glove.

BEST AND WORST: Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh

We don’t know what is always going on in Pharrell’s mind. For the sake of the awards nights, this is the first time that he has come this close to getting it right, but we don’t get what it is with the folded hem and the new hair though. However, Helen did us proud; at least they were not wearing Denim this time.
