The former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has condemned the judgment of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sat in Abuja, today, Monday.
The Tribunal had upheld the election of Kayode Fayemi as the Governor of Ekiti State.
Taking to his verified Twitter handle, @GovAyoFayose, on Monday, Fayose said: “I would have been surprised at the judgment of the Tribunal, if it had been otherwise, because the Judiciary was already coerced by the APC-led Federal Government. In fact, the judgement was in public domain, and celebrated by APC, since the last few days.”
Post-Nigeria had earlier reported that the three-man panel of the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its Candidate, Professor Olusola Kolapo Olubunmi.
The Tribunal held that the various allegations raised against the elections by the petitioners, were not proved as required by law, adding that, worthless documents were dumped on the Tribunal.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Suleiman Bolaji Belgore, said that, contrary to the claims of the petitioners, Governor Fayemi was duly and lawfully returned as winner of majority votes, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
