Fayose, PDP Chairman send strong signal to Tinubu, Others

The Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as well as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, with not less than eleven Governors from the party have on Friday, April 29, agreed to name a gigantic Women Development Centre after the Late Fumilayo Olayinka, a former Deputy Governor from the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

Late Olayinka, was deputy Governor to the immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, from 16th October 2010. However, she died in Lagos on April, 2013 of breast cancer, leaving behind her husband and three children.

This is coming as a huge surprise to the leadership of the APC, led by Bola Tinubu and others, who have been critical of Fayose’s administration.

Eleven PDP governors witnessed the inauguration of the centre, among other projects executed by Governor Fayose.

The Governors present were: Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom); Serieke Dickson (Bayelsa); Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Ibrahim Dakwambo (Gombe); Dave Umahi (Ebonyi); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta); Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo); Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Darius Ishaku (Taraba) and Ben Ayade (Cross River).

The Akwa Ibom Governor who led other governors to the event, described Fayose as a man who has risen beyond partisan politics.

“It uncommon to see a politician who will build a multi-million naira project and dedicate it to his arch-rival, the APC.

“Fayose has risen beyond partisan politics and must be emulated by all,” he said.

The projects inaugurated were the Women Development Centre, named after the late Deputy governor; 6.2km De-Head-Adetiloye Road executed at N782, 021,436; the 800m dualised Awedele-Secretariat road, which gulped N488, 199,974 and the Ewi’s Palace gallery on which the government said it spent N212.1 million to complete.

The Funmilayo Olayinka Women Centre was constructed at “no cost” to the state government, but through donations from corporate organisations and admirers of the late Deputy Governor.

Earlier, the APC in Ekiti state had described all the projects listed by Fayose for commissioning as “fraudulent projects”.

It said while the other PDP governors, Fayose had invited for the event were inaugurating fresh projects in their states, the governor embarked on rehabilitated projects and the ones he did not spend one Naira on, to be presented to the world as new projects initiated by him.

“The newly constructed Funmi Olayinka Women Centre at Fajuyi is a N600m TETFUND project funded by a bank originally planned to be located at the Ekiti State University campus, but because Fayose wanted to con people with the project, he forced its relocation to Fajuyi area of the state capital and has been deceiving Ekiti people that he built that edifice.

“The same is Ikere-Ekiti N400m road dualisation, funded by another bank as its social responsibility project in Ekiti state, yet the governor has been deceiving Ekiti people and the six governors that he built the road for Ikere people, APC had said.

Ishaku, the Taraba state Governor, also held a special thanksgiving to mark his Supreme Court victory in honour of Fayose who “predicted” his judicial triumph over his APC rival, Aisha Al-Hassan.
