FG condoles with families of Nigerians killed in Indonesia, condemns killing

Messrs Solomon Okafor (alias Namaona Denils) and Daniels Enemuo, also known as Diarrassoube Mamadou, were executed by firing squad for drug related offences by the Indonesian government.

Okafor and Enemuo were executed at the Island of Nusakambangu in Cilacap, Central Java Province. They were put to death alongside two women, one from Indonesia and the other from Vietnam, two Brazilians, and one Dutch national.

A statement issued by the Spokesperson, Public Communication Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ogbole Amedu Ode, condemned the killing and said that they would put a strain on the cordial relations that has existed between the two counties.

Mr. Ogbole, on behalf of the Government, sent its condolences to the families of the deceased for the misfortune, urging them to stick together, accept the call and move on.

“The Federal Government seizes this opportunity to express its sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased. It reiterates its appeal to all Nigerians to desist from drug trafficking which attracts the capital punishment in Indonesia and in many other countries around the world,

“The Government will continue to engage the Indonesian authorities to negotiate and conclude a Prisoner Transfer Agreement that may enable other convicted Nigerians to return home to serve their prison terms. Thus, the Foreign Minister has summoned the Indonesian Ambassador to register Nigeria’s protest,” he said

The ministry appealed to the Indonesian Government to exercise clemency for the other 12 Nigerians still on the death row in the country.
