Gwoza captured by Nigerian Armed Forces, freed of Boko Haram

The Defense Headquarters disclosed about 30 minutes ago that the last remaining insurgent stronghold in Borno, Gwoza Local Government Area, has been liberated by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

According to a flash message tweeted by the official handle of the Defense Headquarters, the troops captured the town on Friday morning and destroyed the headquarters of the insurgents.

It also revealed that several terrorists were killed in the operation

while several others were captured.

It also stated that mopping up of the entire Gwoza and her environs were currently ongoing.

On Facebook, the Defence Headquarters officially declared that “GWOZA IS FREE.”

President Goodluck Jonathan had promised on Wednesday, while receiving four International Election Monitoring Groups that Gwoza in Borno, the last town under Boko Haram terrorists, would be liberated by Friday; and true to word, Gwoza has been declared free.

It is expected that the Nigeria will soon be declared completely free of the insurgents.
