The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, on Thursday afternoon, has Nigeria’s inability to refine its crude oil under President Muhammadu Buhari’s watch, as “shameful”.

“It is shameful that the present day Nigeria’s Government cannot refine crude oil. We ultimately need to look for a solution”, he said.

Kachikwu stated this on Thursday, while speaking at an Investigative Public Hearing on the current scarcity of petrol, currently going on at the National Assembly, at the time of filing this report.

This followed a directive by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, that the Committee cut short its Christmas and New Year recess, and immediately convene a meeting with industry stakeholders.

The Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Marafa, last week, announced that the stakeholders in the Petroleum sector have been invited to a crucial meeting, on January 4, 2018.

The fuel crisis across Nigeria has been on for about one month, with officials giving various reasons for it.
