HAPPENING LIVE: Rochas Okorocha Faces Deadly Attack For Wasting N520 Million Imo State Money On Bloody Frivolities, Despite Owing Backlog Of Salaries

Nigerians have taken to the social media to criticise Rochas Okorocha, the Governor of Imo State, over the unveiling of a statue of Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa.

Zuma, who is currently facing a running battle in his political party, the African National Congress, ANC, back home over allegations of corruption and abuse of office, has been in Owerri, the Imo State capital, since Friday.

The unveiling ceremony was only one of the many honours conferred on Zuma by Okorocha, and witnessed by Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria.

He was also given the Imo Merit Award, the highest award in the State, which is usually given to honour persons that have distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavours.

A chieftaincy title (Ochiagha di oha mma of Igboland, meaning the people’s warlord), was also conferred on Zuma, and a street was named after him.

Twitter users who reacted to the development, wondered what Zuma has done for Imo State or Nigeria, to merit such honour.

Some noted that despite the role Nigeria played to bring the apartheid regime in South Africa to an end, Nigerians were being killed in the country on a regular basis, and Zuma had done nothing to check that.

Dairo, a social media user said: “I wonder the kind of Leaders we have in Nigeria. Anyone who wishes to become next Imo State Gov., MUST in his campaign manifesto, promise Imo people that he/she will remove that Statue… Too Bad!”

Kingsley Chima Obim Martins said: “Now the Igbos will be clamouring for secession, instead of them to face the real problem. Their Leaders are their problem. Imagine this guy wasting resources.”

Monday Aika said: “Mumu I am not Igbo; do you really think Okorocha got his mandate from the people, if not for corruption, people like Okorocha cannot be a Councillor in any State in the South-East, talk less of Governor.

Amara Daniel Agbim added: “520 million to construct an image of South African corrupt President, facing impeachment in Imo State, where millions of youths are jobless and roaming the street.

“520 million will make 520 Imolites from every Local Government medium scale entrepreneurs at N1 million each with the capacity to employ about 5 workers, thereby providing job to about 3000 people.”
