Holidays: Civil Defence step up security with 55,000 personnel

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has revealed that about 55,000 personnel have been deployed nationwide to maintain law and order over the festive period.

This was disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja by the NSCDC spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Okeh.

In his statement he noted that about 15,500 specially trained sniffer dogs were also deployed to help in the effort.

Mr Okeh said, “I can assure you that the NSCDC has deployed no fewer than 55,000 of its personnel across the nation, especially to those hot spots, to ensure law and order during and after the yuletide”

“We have also taken delivery of about 500 specially-trained sniffer dogs, to complement the 15,000 we have on ground”

He also mentioned that the Corp had deployed 5,000 personnel to strategic states like Port Harcourt, Kano, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, while no fewer than 2,000 will be evenly deployed to other states.

The NSCDC urges Nigerians to be very vigilant and work closely with security agents during and after the festive season.

He assured Nigerians that other specialized units such as the Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Forces and surveillance vehicles would be deployed to ensure law and order is maintained.
