How APC plans to impose Audu in Kogi

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has characteristically shown that it will impose former Kogi State Governor, Abubakar Audu on the people of the State, ahead of the August 9 APC Primary election and the governorship election scheduled for November 21.

The party had earlier claimed through its National Organising Secretary, who was represented by the Director of Administration, Abdullahi Gashua, that it would not interfere in the State primaries.

Gashua, stated the party would not back Bello as the party was committed to ensuring that all aspirants were given a level playing field to contest so that the best among them would receive the party’s endorsement.

“APC stands for change and the party has no preferred candidate and it will prepare a level playing ground for every aspirant,” Gashua stated.

However, the implication of the party’s statement has been percieved as an indirect endorsement of Audu’s ambition against the wish of the people of the State.

Declining public support for Bello is seen as a clear indication that the party is sympathetic to the former Governor owing to his influence in the State and the party too.

The party leadership originally handed over the party to Audu when it introduced the party to Kogi in 2013 and the former Governor was responsible for giving the APC the recognition, popularity and supporters it had in the State.

With an election coming up so soon many indigenes are said to view this as a time for Audu to collect on a debt the APC owes him.

With Audu being a heavyweight, he naturally commands the support of the entire APC in the State.

The party, in refusing to pitch its tent on the Bello side of the divide, all but confirms thst the former governor will most likely emerge its candidate at the polls.

This is underlined by the confident boasts Audu recently made, declaring himself as Kogi’s Messiah.

There is now no doubt that the civil responsibility of the people of the state to elect who they desire to lead Kogi state will be hijacked by the APC which is against democratic principles.

This development from the APC regarding Audu who hails from the Kogi –East region is an impediment to the Kogi-Central and Kogi-West regions as voiced by the Power Shift Forum

Both are interested in wresting power from the East and are pushing this via the Forum.

The body as recently reported by Post Nigeria, lamented marginalization by Audu’s region and stands opposed to his ambition.
