How to upgrade your wardrobe in 6 easy steps

Having a wardrobe full of clothes and yet nothing to wear is a style dilemma everyone, especially ladies face at one point or the other. With the current global cash crunch, buying a whole set of clothes is definitely out of the question.

With limited resources, you don’t need to spend a fortune to give your wardrobe a facelift. So here are some creative ways to refresh your wardrobe on a budget.

1. Clear Out
Refreshing your space is key to getting the desired upgrade so clear out all the unwanted crap you don’t need. There are definitely clothes you’ve not used in years; those should be the first to go.

Here is the secret; clearing out when you’re in a bad mood yields the most efficient results, trust me clothes lose all emotional meaning. This will enable you hold on to pieces you actually wear and need.

2. Swap Shop
wardrob swapOnce the bags of unwanted clothes are out, call your friends over for a swap shop evening – where everyone brings six to eight unwanted items and you exchange them for someone else’s pieces.

The great trick is, it is completely free, no one is paying for anytime unless the drinks of course (lol)! Any extra unwanted items can be donated to a charity. It would make a lot of sense to bring smile on someone’s face.

3. Re-organize your space
Now that you know what you want in your wardrobe, it is time to re-organize your space with your new clothes. Brighten up your wardrobe by sorting it according to the type of garment by having a section for every garment. This is to say your tops, trousers, skirts, and dresses should be sorted in different sections.

Organising your closet so efficiently will enable you to assess what you have a lot of; where the gaps in your wardrobe are and, hopefully, you’ll see some new outfit combinations you didn’t know existed.

4. Get inspired by role models

Check out fashion editorials and celebrities whose style you admire, and then put together a moodboard or Pinterest board that will help you identify your own personal style. You could easily make up a similar outfit from your existing wardrobe. If you don’t have the full outfit, swap your missing items for a similar piece in your wardrobe to emulate the look.

5. Get creative
If you’re feeling creative, give your wardrobe an update with some easy customising tricks. Try cutting off t-shirt sleeves to make tank tops, turning old jeans into denim shorts, adding some buttons to plain garments for instant embellishment. You can also give your wardrobe a fresh look by bleaching your white garments back to their whitest possible shade. Take creativity a step further by dyeing your jeans and other garments.

6. Accessorize

The quickest way to bring a dull outfit to life is through your accessories. A bright bag, an oversized scarf or a statement necklace can work wonders to lift a muted outfit. If you want to give your jewellery collection a trend update, then try stacking random rings on one hand, feel free to mix shapes and metallics. This accessory trend is all about looking effortlessly chic.
