Ighalo, Ideye and others set Europe ablaze with scintillating goals

Super Eagles strikers returned to goal scoring form this past weekend as they continued to deliver the goods at their respective clubs.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo, Olympiakos’ Brown Ideye and Anthony Ujah all registered a goal each at the weekend.

Ighalo produced another class display as his unbelievable season continues. The 26-year-old’s goal against Aston Villa makes it his 8th goal in the league and he has been directly involved in 10 of the 13 Premier League goals Watford have scored this season. That’s 77% of the goals!

A goal for Victor Moses would have made his day complete after a lively performance for West Ham against West Bromwich Albion but he scuffed a late chance. The 24 year old last scored against Manchester City in September but has continued to shine for his London club.

In other Premiership fixtures, John Mikel Obi was an unused substitute for Chelsea who held Tottenham Hotspurs to a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane. He however contributed to the amusing drama between his teammate Diego Costa and manager, Jose Mourinho. Kelechi Iheancho, also remained on the bench for Manchester City.

Ideye seems to be back amongst the goals after netting in the 86th minute to make it 3-0 for Olympiakos. The goal was Ideye’s 5th in 10 league appearances.

Anthony Ujah, who is yet to win the heart of Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, was on target for Werder Bremen but his goal could not stop his side from losing 3-1 at home to Hamburg at the Weserstadion on Saturday afternoon.

In Spain Success Isaac featured 90 minutes for Granada but failed to find the back of the net.

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa was on for 90 minutes for CSKA who held Haruna Lukman’s Anzhi to a 1-1 draw in a Russian league match although, Haruna Lukman was overlooked for selection as he was an unused substitute.

In the French Ligue 1, Super Eagles left-back Elderson Echiejile made an appearance for AS Monaco who played a 3-3 draw against Marseille.

Scottish champions Celtic defeated Inverness 3-1 but Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose could only make the substitute bench

Nigerian midfielder Nwankwo Obiora made an appearance for Academica against Arouca which ended 1-1 in the In Portuguese league but got a substitution for Leandro Silva in the 32nd minute.

In the Turkish Super League Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo was in action for 90 minutes in Kasimpasa’s 2-2 home draw with Galatasaray while Nigerian duo of Gbenga Arokoyo and John Chibuike were sent off for Gaziantepspor who played 2-2 away to Genclerbirligi.
