INEC yet to postpone elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that a decision to postpone the February 14 elections is yet to be reached.

The commission announced this via its official twitter account, stating that the meeting was still ongoing in Abuja.

Foreign media, The Associated Press, had announced that the electoral commission had decided to delay the elections by six weeks, to enable a new multinational force combating insurgents in the North East, cover more ground.

Agitations have been strong in the last week, for a shift in the date for the polls, with a huge percentage of the populace in the southern region of the country having not collected their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.

INEC said the meeting was ongoing, and a resolution was yet to be reached.
