Jonathan Committed to Nigerian Worker’s Housing Scheme

President Goodluck Jonathan will on Wednesday in Abuja, inaugurate 10,000 housing units for Nigerians under the Workers’ Housing Scheme that has been designed for all 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

This is being done to reduce the housing deficit in the country and most importantly, provide affordable homes to Nigerian workers.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala  Mohammed, on Monday, made the announcement that the scheme which is in partnership with the Nigerian Labour Congress, and Trade Union Congress, would be developed by Good Homes Development Company Limited.

The Minister said, “The FCT Administration has provided land for the scheme and the developers will build various types of houses including 5-bedroom duplexes; 4-bedroom duplexes; 3-bedroom terrace duplexes; 3-bedroom block of flats and 2-bedroom block of flats.”

According to PUNCHNG, the FCT administration, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development have been mandated with the responsibility of fashioning out how it would be done.

NIGERIANTIMES reports the Minister as saying that the scheme was borne out of President Goodluck Jonathan’s passion for the interest of Nigerian workers.

“The President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has called me and the Minister of State personally and given us marching orders to give out the districts and make pivotal, the kind of housing where the workers can put their heads,” he said.

He also added, “the project will all together be on 650 hectares of land and will be the first of its kind in the country”

In a statement by the Chairman, Good Homes Development Company Limited – Mr Owele Nicholas Ukachukwu, “If You don’t own, a house you cannot blame the Government. It is for you now to take advantage of the Federal Mortgage loan,”  he said.

He also pledged that quality housing will be delivered in good time.
