President Goodluck Jonathan has named Chief Edem Duke as the acting Minister of Information, pending the appointment of a new Minister.
Prior to this appointment, he was the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National orientation.
Duke’s appointment to oversee the Ministry of Information comes shortly after the disengagement of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nuruddeen Muhammad, who previously performed the duties.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi, released a statement stating that, Dr. Muhammadu resigned his appointment, so that he could focus solely on his campaign as the Deputy Governorship candidate for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Jigawa State ahead of the April 11, 2015 Governorship elections.
