Jonathan winds down tenure by signing vital bills

President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, signed the Tobacco Control bill into law.

According to the Presidential Spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President signed the bill alongside five others.

Other bills signed by President Jonathan include, National Sugar Development Council (amendment) bill, AMCON Amendment bill, Standards Organization of Nigeria Bill, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency Act and Equipment Leasing bill.

Jonathan’s actions are indications that his showing no signs of slowing down in the task of governance even with barely 72 hours to the end of his tenure.

Jonathan earlier this week, signed the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act and the Immigration Act.

The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act prohibits female circumcision or genital mutilation, forceful ejection from home and harmful widowhood practices.

Jonathan, despite outcries from the All Progressives Congress, APC, has also made a series of firing and hiring in this final phase of his time in office.

The most widely-publicized was the sack of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba.
