Kogi, Bayelsa in danger of being plunged into APC chaos – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement on Friday, November 6, said that it had uncovered a plot by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to unleash violence in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states slated for November 21, and December 5 respectively.

The statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, called on President Muhamamdu Buhari not to turn blind eyes to the alleged plot.

According to him, the PDP was aware that the APC was planning to create tension in both States ahead of the elections.

Thugs suspected to be APC members on Tuesday, November 3, allegedly attacked the campaign train of Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

The incident took place at the popular Swali market in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

Apparently, the incident would have degenerated into a bloody crisis but for the prompt intervention of security aides attached to the Governor’s convoy.

While describing the attack as barbaric, the Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign, Jonathan Obuebite stated that the people of Bayelsa have known “APC as a violent party.”

Metuh while dishing on the APC violent plot said: “the thugs unleashed on the campaign train of Gov. Seriake Dickson on Tuesday was a clear test-run of APC machinery to create violence ahead of the Bayelsa Dec. 5 election.

“Intelligence report available to us shows that this brazen attack on Governor Dickson was not spontaneous.

“It is part of a well-hatched plot to create an atmosphere of insecurity in the state, ostensibly to pave way for their violence-driven rigging strategy.

“The strategy that includes the deployment of APC controlled security forces to frighten and intimidate voters as was the case in the Borno bye-election.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari, as the leader of the nation and a huge beneficiary of the credible election organised by the PDP, to take immediate steps to rein-in APC members and their actions.

“Their actions in Bayelsa state are capable of triggering a resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta region.’’

Metuh said that Bayelsa and Kogi were clear strongholds of the PDP.

“Moreover, the people of these states are not in any way ready or willing to accept any results that do not in full measure reflect their wishes and aspirations at the polls,’’ he said.
