#KogiDecides: More permutations over APC’s replacement candidate

The Deputy Director, Finance and Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organization and Chairman, Media and Publicity, N/West zone of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Idi Mohammed Farouk has endorsed Muhammed Audu, son of late Prince Abubakar Audu, as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC.

Farouk who is the former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, stated that since the result was announced, the son of the late candidate should serve as a running mate to James Faleke.

Audu passed away on Sunday, barely hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the November 21 governorship poll in the state inconclusive where he was leading incumbent, Idris Wada with over 41,353 votes.

Audu’s demise soon brought crisis into the APC as confusion raged over who would replace the former Kogi Governor after INEC gave a deadline of December 1 to produce a replacement.

The APC earlier announced it would conduct fresh primaries ahead of the supplementary election but later reports disclosed that the party opted for Yahaya Bello who emerged second in the party’s primary election.

While the late Audu polled 1,109 votes to defeat 26 other aspirants who contested with him, Bello polled 702 votes to become Audu’s closest challenger in the keenly contested governorship primary.

Nevertheless, insinuations are that Audu’s supporters, including his campaign structure, are rooting for Audu’s son, Mohammed, or Faleke for them not to lose out entirely.

This report forced Faleke to protest through his lawyer, Wole Olanikpekun to the party’s national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun to lay his claim to the mandate of the late Audu, rejecting his nomination as Bello’s running mate.

However, Farouk stated that the election was not inconclusive as the result was announced; stressing that Faleke should be allowed to take over because he is the running mate while someone in Audu’s clique be allowed to serve as running mate.

“It was not inconclusive. If the results had been announced, Hon. Abiodun James Faleke should have taken over because he is the running mate. If the Constitution can allow that the Deputy take over from the Governors in case of death.

“If the electoral law can allow that even when they have just announced the results but the Governor-elect dies, the Deputy Governor-elect should take over. In any case, the APC should go to court and get an expedited action in the court. It is possible.

“It is my take that Faleke is the candidate and somebody from the Audu clique, like his son Muhammed Audu can be the running mate. If they wish to put an Igala, Muhammed is qualified because he is also a politician. Fair is fair.

“That is my take, Muhammed/Faleke or Faleke/Muhammed joint ticket is clear.” He stated

The APC will on Monday November 30 meet at its national secretariat to conclude and announce a consensus candidate for governorship and deputy candidates.
