Nigeria Breweries to support public schools

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Breweries Plc, Nicolass Vervelde has announced the commitment of the organization to provide the right learning environment in Nigeria’s public schools.

NB stated this in Lagos during the unveiling of refurbished classrooms, library and toilet facilities at the Adisa Bashua Primary School Surulere, Lagos State.

Lagos Brewery Manager, Mrs. Ethel Emma-Uche, representing the CEO said the renovation was courtesy of NB and the Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund Foundation.

She said, “The Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was established in 1994 with a start-off grant of N100m to take an active role in the funding of education and research as well as encourage academic excellence in Nigeria.

“Through the ETF, our company has been able to support the development of educational infrastructure in Nigeria in diverse ways. We have constructed new classroom blocks and libraries, renovated existing classrooms where applicable, equipped these schools with furniture, books and computers to provide a suitable learning environment for pupils.”

“In Nigeria Breweries, corporate social responsibility is not just a business ethic; it is having a vision beyond the doors of our company. It is about understanding the positive impact an enterprise can have on its local environment.

“We strive to champion causes that add value to the society because of our belief that business should be an integral part of the community where it operates. We are committed to winning with Nigeria and this project is one of our ways of fulfilling that objective.”

However, the Lagos State Commissioner for Education Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye while speaking at the inauguration applauded the efforts of the Company to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Education.
