Nigerians call for better handling of international image under Buhari

There was confusion in South Africa on Saturday when Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, who departed Nigeria for South Africa to attend the 25th African Union, AU, Summit holding in Johannesburg, was nowhere to be found.

During yesterday’s session of the ongoing summit, President Buhari statements on New Partnership for Africa’s Development, NEPAD, was read by a representative.

“More AU confusion: Nigerian president Buhari is a no-show at key #NEPAD session at AU summit today, yet media say he arrived last night”

‎”@ImadMesdoua Yes, that seems to be true. Lots of confusion at AU summit. Buhari was scheduled to speak today, but didn’t arrive.”

In the speech, President Buhari urged NEPAD to prioritize industrialization, infrastructure, women empowerment, regional integration at the ongoing summit.

Nigerians were left confused with the development, as Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had released a statement that the President would be departing for South Africa.

Though President Buhari later arrived to chair the meeting of the Peace and Security Committee of the AU Summit, Nigerians have called for his handlers to work on effective communication so misunderstandings like this, which could lead to international embarrassments, could be avoided.
