No Juicy Appointments For South-East, South-South, As APC Set To Punish The Entire Regions For Not Voting Buhari

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has started consultations, over a workable zoning arrangement for the positions in the 9th National Assembly.

This is coming barely one week after the ruling APC won majority of the seats in the Senate and House of Representatives, in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.

A highly placed member of the party’s Leadership, however, expressed reservations over the clamour by some party Leaders to exclude the South-East and the South-South, on account of not voting for President Muhammadu Buhari.

In response to a question of whether the party has learnt a lesson from what happened in the 8th Senate, the source said: “This time round, the battle for positions in the National Assembly is going to be worst, because some of our Leaders are toying with the idea of using a divisive template to exclude the South-South and the South-East, because according to them these areas did not vote for Buhari.

“However, if we are to consider the Constitution, even if we have no member from these areas, we need to spread these positions to have national cohesion.”

Already, the race for the Leadership of the 9th National Assembly has started culminating, in a series of intense lobbying by the contestants.

Investigations revealed that some of the Senators that have joined the race, are the current Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, Ali Ndume, and Danjuma Goje.

Most of the contestants are from the North-East geopolitical zone, the region the APC had zoned the Leadership of the Senate, in 2015.

Also in the House of Representatives, the Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was favoured for the post in 2015, would square up with the current Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, it was learnt.

One of the ranking APC Senators from the South-West said: “We were supposed to go by the zoning formula already approved by the Leadership of the APC. Now that we have won the election again, nothing should change the 2015 arrangement, because we still have the same structure in place.

“This shows that the 2015 formula would be adopted. Although, information at my disposal indicates that Senators Ali Ndume and Dajuma Goje have started mobilising some of our colleagues.”

The Senator further explained: “The same structure endorsed by the party in 2015, would still play out in the House of Representatives.”
