PDP’s Aye Dee, Demola Rewaju & Anthony Ehilebo take APC’s Akintunde Oyebode and co to the cleaners at YNaija TV debate

Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan and the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari went head to head in a YNaija organized youth debate, held on Sunday.

The debate which aired on its popular youth programme, Rubbin Minds on Channels television saw the youth representatives of these parties try to garner support for their parties.

The show, which was hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, featured on the side of President Jonathan, New York-based social commentator and self-styled security expert, Mukhtar Daniyan (@MrAyeDee), Anthony Ehilebo of the PDP presidential campaign and coordinator, PDP Youth Support Group, Ademola Rewaju.

General Buhari’s side had Akintunde Oyebode (@AO1379), chairman, APC Youth Forum, Ismail Ahmed and Ikem Isiekwene.

Conversation during the debate, which was divided into three sections, centered on security, economy, clamour for change, resolve for continuity, among others.

The first section, which was on continuity or change, was between Ehilebo, PDP, and Ahmed, APC. The calm and articulated Ehilebo systematically outlined the successes of the Goodluck administration especially in the areas of women participation, electoral reforms and job creation, youth empowerment, economic growth, amongst others, while the APC representative could not sell his candidate beyond subjective and emotional arguments.

The second and arguably the most heated section was on Security and Economy, and was between Daniyan (@MrAyeDee) of the PDP, and Oyebode (@AO1379) of the APC.

Dan’Iyan, a security expert, was able to explain the conventional techniques of fighting insurgency in the 21st century, as well as the challenges and also pointed out that the fight against insurgency would be surmounted going by the well structured Armed Forces being led by a focused President.

He also mentioned that military formations all over the country are now getting more funding for training and equipment which he said is a step in the right direction.

On the issue of economy, the popular twitter commentator, asked how the retired General who has been unable to multiply his 150 cows for over 2 decades would re-structure and manage the agricultural sector or the economy in general.

He mentioned that the eradication of corruption from the fertilizer programmes by the Jonathan administration has enhanced the growth of agriculture and its contribution to GDP in the last 4 years.

The APC youth was put on the defensive and was unable to adequately answer the several allegations leveled against his party’s presidential candidate. He even admitted that agriculture under the Jonathan administration has been successful.

The final section, which was on Youth and Empowerment, saw Isiekwene of the APC go head to head with PDP’s Rewaju.

Isiekwene could not adequately sell Nigerians his candidate’s plan on job creation and youth empowerment other than create a phantasmagoria of industrial revolution which could not be explained or experienced from current APC states in Nigeria.

The well articulated Rewaju, on the other hand, dished out verified statistics on job creation. He stated that the Goodluck administration is now creating 1.4million jobs year on year. He also stated that if given an opportunity, Jonathan is poised to create more especially with the governments support programmes such as SURE-P, YOU-WIN, G-WIN, etc.

The debate, which was watched by many, had political and social commentators agreeing that the PDP representatives had a better outing.

The PDP chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, took to twitter to congratulate the youth who he said represented the party excellently in the youth election debate.

“I have just watched the #Rubbinminds video Debate & I am impressed with @MrAyeDee, @DemolaRewaju & @AnthonyEhilebo for making us proud. #AM,” he tweeted.

He also exhibited his enthusiasm about the bright future of Nigeria with the level of intelligence and dedication displayed by youths in the PDP.

He said “PDP is super proud of you @MrAyeDee, @DemolaRewaju & @AnthonyEhilebo. The future of our nation is so bright with great minds like you. #AM”
