Pray for Nigeria, Gowon urges

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, rtd, has urged all Nigerians to continually pray for the peace and unity of the nation despite political unrest and security challenges.

Gowon, who is the Convener Nigeria Prays, said this in Gombe during the weekend when he visited Mr Tha’anda Rubainu, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State.

He explained how the Nigeria Prays project was introduced in other to pray for the leadership, people and lasting peace in Nigeria as part of the members’ contribution to the development of the country.

“This is our contribution to see to the peace and well-being of Nigeria.

“Where we human beings cannot do, through prayers, God can do something which you and I do not know how it is going to happen.

“The good Lord knows what he is doing to change the hearts and minds of those who are doing the wrong thing against the country and the people

“The Lord turns that into positive contributors to the peace and well-being of the country,” he said.

Gowon pointed out that during his time as Head of State he did not relent in prayer as it was prayers that sustained the country at that time and not necessarily the Military capacity of the Federal Government.

According to him, Nigeria Prays was a programme which comprised both Christians and Muslims holding prayer sessions in their respective ways of worship.

The former Head of State applauded Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo for the infrastructure development he had provided in the State urging him to keep it up.

The Deputy Governor, Rubainu said God was with Nigeria and will orchestrate what will happen in the country.

He stressed that both Christians and Muslims in the country needed each other and that prayer, such as the one offered by the group, was the right thing to do.

Rubainu went on to express belief that the prayer sessions and those being offered around the nation would ensure lasting peace in the North-east.
