Rail transport set to commence fully – Bamanga Tukur

The Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has said that all railway lines in Nigeria would start functioning fully soon.

The chairman, who disclosed this on Monday while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the corporation had finished making plans to ensure operations commence along Port Harcourt – Enugu railway lines to enhance rail transportation in the zone.

“Our railway transportation system has long been moribund but President Goodluck Jonathan’s led administration has revived the system.

“Nigerian Railway Corporation is no longer what it used to be, we are no longer using analogue locomotive engines, and our facilities are up to date in line with global standard.

“NRC has acquired digitalised trains and coaches to enhance efficient services to Nigerians’’, he said.

Tukur explained that this refurbishment of the railway transportation system would be the solution to the challenges of transportation that had previously bedeviled farmers.

He encouraged the farmers to make use of this rehabilitated rail transport system to effectively distribute their agricultural products to consumers across the country.
