Tension as Saraki, Dogara lose patience with Buhari over Budget

Sequel to President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve not to assent to the 2016 budget until grey areas are sorted out, the leadership of the National Assembly has allegedly agreed to compel the President to append his signature on the appropriation bill.

Buhari on return from China last week, was shocked when the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh and his team discovered fresh 386 “strange” projects worth N12.6 billion, alleged to have been inserted in the Budget by the National Assembly.

The is coming following the discovery by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, that the Lagos-Calabar rail project was removed from the 2016 budget, an allegation the legislators have debunked, saying that it was not appropriated from the original budget transmitted to the House.

According to sources who attended a meeting held last night, the leadership of both chambers have resolved that the President will be obliged to sign the budget in view of the need to address the continuous economic pandemonium in the country.

The sources added, that the legislative heads equally agreed to honor any amendment from the President through a supplementary budget, assuring its expedient consideration by the Legislature.

The delay in the passage of the budget 4 months into the 2016 fiscal year, has been reported to have affected every segment of the Nigerian economy as many companies have folded up, while others have turned their faces to neighbouring African countries where the business climate is favourable.

It has also been reported that under Buhari, the nation has experienced 3 quarters of negative growths, although the President and the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun have assured Nigerians that the government will get it right when issues of the 2016 budget are addressed and passed.

While some economic analysts are against the delay in the assent of the budget, others are of the view that Nigeria needs to get it right and that the President should take his time before signing the budget.

With the crisis un-abating, Post-Nigeria had reported that the President has invariable earned himself a famous award in the Guinness book record.
