Those attacking Saraki want dictatorship – Kwara Speaker

The vote of confidence passed on the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Tuesday by his colleagues at the senate has been described as a demonstration of the nation’s legislature’s independence.

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad who said this, added that the anti-democratic forces have once again failed to consummate their one-month old evil plan against the Senate President and Nigeria’s democracy.

Ahmad while reacting on the development further described the senators action as a good display of democracy in action.

Stressing that the legislature is the difference between an autocratic regime and a democracy, the Speaker said despite Senator Saraki’s persecution he has continued to garner more support both within and outside the shores of the country.

Recalling that last time, 81 senators out of the 106 passed votes of confidence on Senator Saraki, he noted that this time 84 threw their support on his leadership, a situation which proved that he (Saraki) is super popular among his colleagues.

“It is democracy in action. The legislature is the difference between an autocratic regime and a democracy. Anti-Democratic forces have once again failed to consummate their one-month old evil plan against our democracy and independence of the legislature”.

“Saraki is super popular among his colleagues. The last time, he got 81 votes of his colleagues who passed their votes of confidence on his leadership and this time around he got the backing of 84 senators out of the 106. That means they believe in him and his leadership”.

The speaker went on to advice Saraki’s political enemies to face the reality and back track in their evil plans rather than continue to persecute Nigeria’s democracy on the pages of newspapers.

Ahmad said, “Once again, the detractors have failed on the floor of the senate. It is better for them to join hands with him to build a formidable senate that will proffer solutions to the yearnings of Nigerians and stop persecuting the Senate President”.
