UPDATE: Ngige speaks out on collapse at National Assembly

There was a mild drama at the National Assembly on Thursday, February 18, during the House of Representatives Committee Defense of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, was reported to have ‘slumped to the floor’ during the defense of his ministry’s 2016 budget.

According to reports, the minister was immediately rushed out of the National Assembly chambers for medical attention.

Before the incident occurred, Ngige was said to have been addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Labour.

Ngige, a former governor of Anambra State, and a top chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was said to have been receiving medical attention.

This is coming following the sack of the Director-General of the Budget Office, Yahaya Gusau, by President Muhammadu Buhari, over the controversy surrounding the 2016 appropriation bill.

However, Ngige, has refuted reports that he collapsed on the floor of the House of Representatives during budget defence.

Speaking with the Punch, Ngige described the report as a ruse and an attempt by politicians to malign his ability and personality.

He said “It’s laughable, and a failed cannon targeted at me by never -do- well politicians for selfish interest.
“I am not in Nigeria, I attended special morning function in Zambia and I’m airborne to South Africa where I will be coming into the country tomorrow, the rumours on the social media and other quarters have to show how petty people can be.

“I don’t see it as anything but I wish to tell those who still play this outdated and obsolete politics of bitterness to embrace change and know that it is no longer business as usual.

“The rumour has shown that I’m a great person. The late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe experienced such dangerous rumour. Those who peddle such rumour in history most often visit there before long.” He stated
